Abstract

Motion and load of trimaran in irregular head waves are compared and analyzed by a series of self-propulsion experiment of trimaran model. The rule of trimaran motion with different wave scale and sailing speed, such as pitch, heave and acceleration of center hull, is analyzed by comparing the characteristic value in statistics. The longitudinal distribution of load under irregular waves is studied with the reasonable arrangement of sensors on the trimaran model. And the influence on load with the change of wave scale and sailing speed is also analyzed. The extreme value of the pressure on trimaran’s shell is collected to study the longitudinal and vertical distribution of pressure on the center hull and the difference of pressure on the two sides of outrigger. The number of green water is also counted to analyze the influence of the wave’s impact on trimaran with different wave scale and sailing speed. The data, which is got by the series of experiment, provides the foundation for the trimaran’s design and structural strength evaluation.
