Comparisons of the long rod high velocity penetration models for semi-infinite targets

Abstract

Based on four typical metal penetration and three concrete penetration experimental data, the predication performance for depth of penetration of six theoretical models were analyzed and evaluated, respectively. The target resistance (Rt) and time history curve of axial velocity were also discussed. The calculation results indicated that AW model is the best for long rod projectile penetrating into metal targets, then the LW model. However, calculation results showed that none of the six penetration model are suitable for the concrete target, mainly due to the difference of response between metal and concrete targets under high velocity impact. In addition, further research interest on the hypersonic velocity penetration of concrete target was proposed.
