Theoretical model for the anti collision performance analysis of FRP tube concrete composite beams under lateral impact load

Abstract

A finite element model for analysing the impact resistance performance of FRP tube-concrete-steel composite structures under low velocity lateral impact load was established by using the ABAQUS finite element software.The results are in good agreement with the existing experimental results,which indicates the model is approprite.Using the model,a finite element parametric analysis was carried out by changing the impact energy and the hollow ratio respectively.It is concluded that the impact energy has significant effect on the ultimate deflection of composite structures,while the platform value of impact force maintains almost unchanged.The hollow ratio has great influence on the impact resistance of structures as well,especially when the hollow ratio is within the range of 0.6 to 0.8 ,the structure exhibits good impact resistance,and when the hollow ratio χ =0.7,FRP tube-concrete-steel composite structures appear the best mechanical property of impact resistance.The results provide a reference to the further development of the anti impact performance of FRP tube-concrete-steel composite structures.
