Interaction of the symmetric and anti-symmetric longitudinal waves with the interfaces in plate-like adhesive structure

Abstract

To stimulate the guided or interface waves in adhesive structures,in general sound waves should be injected into a multilayer system from two infinite media in the same or opposed phase at the same time.Aiming at this issue,based on the matrix method,the expressions of reflection and transmission coefficients for longitudinal and transverse waves in three-tier plate-like adhesive structures were deduced when on interfaces there is perfect connection and the symmetric or anti-symmetric longitudinal waves are injected from upper and lower infinite spaces.The influences of the incident angle,thickness of adhesive layer and substrate materials etc on the characteristics of acoustic wave reflection (or transmission) were analyzed.The results show that when the symmetric or anti-symmetric longitudinal waves are vertically incident,the conversions of wave modes do not occur.The reflection (or transmission) characteristics of acoustic waves in adhesive structures are closely related to the incident angle,frequency, thickness of adhesive layer and other parameters.In the same range of adhesive layer thickness (or frequency),with the increase of the sound frequency (or adhesive layer thickness),the curves of resonant frequency tend to drift towards the low frequency.The proposed method can be used as an important theoretical basis for the research on transmission characteristics of body or guided waves in adhesive structures.
