Dynamic model of drill strings considering stochastic frictional effects of well wall

Abstract

Aiming at the actual situation of new petroleum resources, the friction stochasticity of well wall and its influence on drill string dynamic behavior were investigated here for studying drill-string dynamic characteristics under more complex formation conditions. Firstly, combined with the actual circumstance of oil-gas wells, the friction behavior of borehole wall was described, and the procedure and methods were proposed to build the random field of borehole wall. Then based on the engineering background of shale gas, the drill-string dynamic model in horizontal wells was established. The solving expressions for forces in the model and the model’s discretization method were derived. At the same time, the basic parameters of examples were determined with test data. The results obtained with different methods were compared and analyzed to verify the correctness of the proposed method. Then key parameters of the model were analyzed quantitatively. The study results provided a reference for further studying drill-string dynamic behaviors under new petroleum resources exploitation conditions, and a theoretical guidance for safety production of down hole, the methods to improve rate of penetration (ROP) and efficiency, and tools development. They were valuable for the field production.
