Vibration analysis of a longspan bridge with a pedestrian and nonmotor system caused by vehicle excitation

Abstract

In this paper, to figure out the pedestrian and nonmotor system vibration caused by vehicle loads in city bridges, a vibration analysis method was established based on the vehiclebridgeinteraction theory. The maximal acceleration responses with different vehicle speeds and road roughness were calculated with an example of a longspan extradosed cable stayed bridge, and some suggestions were given to control the pedestrian and nonmotor system local vibration. The study shows that with the same vehicle speed and road roughness, the maximal acceleration of pedestrian and nonmotor system was much larger than the main girder, the acceleration responses were increased with road roughness, but it does not have a clear relationship in terms of vehicle speed. By increasing the cantilever stiffness, deck stiffness and the pedestrian and nonmotor system’s overall stiffness, the local vibration problems of middle span pedestrian and nonmotor system were effectively controlled, but increasing deck stiffness does not have a clear effect for side span local vibration. By the frequencydomain analysis, from the middle span to side span, the pedestrian and nonmotor system vibration is gradually controlled by the highorder vibration modes.
