Artillery firing dynamics based on spatial variation of propellant gases pressure

Abstract

Considering excitation action of barrel vibration on motion form of projectile in its inner-ballistic period,the finite element dynamic model for the mutual coupled problem between projectile and barrel based on the vibration theory was built. The user-defined subroutine was utilized to realize projectile dynamic process related to propellant combustion law under module charge,and realize the actual loading conditions varying with projectile motion during propellant gas pressure acting on barrel inner-wall,and solve the problem of gases pressure radial effect’s inaccurate loading or being unable to load in previous simulation. The curve comparison between test data and simulation results under the same shooting conditions was obtained. The barrel’s dynamic response time history curves under different simulation conditions were also gained. The results showed that the established nonlinear dynamic model can better reflect the actual artillery firing condition; it can more actually reveal barrel structural dynamic response process; it provides reference data closer to reality for artillery design and fault analysis.
