Pulsation attenuation characteristics study of an expansion chamber hydraulic suppressor with a compressible liner using a lumped parameter model

Abstract

A compliant urethane lining was used in an expansion chamber hydraulic suppressor to reduce the propagation velocity of pulse wave, which made compact pulsation attenuation possible.An expansion chamber hydraulic muffler with a compressible urethane liner was put forward in this paper.Besides, a lumped parameter method was used to build the equivalent circuit model and its feasibility was proved within a certain frequency range.Manifestations of large capacitance were caused by strong compressibility of urethane lining from the point of view of lumped parameter and the results of ageing lining.Unaged ling and ordinary expansion chamber hydraulic attenuators show that bandwidth can be expanded by changing liners’ material composition and there is no needed to change outline dimension of suppressors.Given the situations that other conditions remain unchanged, sapce size can be significantly reduced by using ageing lining, in comparison with ordinary expansion chamber hydrulic mufflers.For an expansion chamber hydraulic suppressor with an ageing liner, with the increase of system pressure, mufflers’ effective attenuation band decreases and attenuation characteristics are affected by system pressure.
