Coupling vibration of bending-torsional waves at an L shaped junction based on wave approach

Abstract

The attenuation of structure-borne sound coupled with both bending and torsional wave at an L shaped junction was investigated by the wave approach.Several new non-dimensional coefficients were introduced to deduce the transmission and reflection at the semi-infinitive L shaped junction, which was extended to compute the vibration field in structure with finite length.Numerical computation was carried out to investigate energy transmission and reflection efficiencies.The results show that both total energy transmission efficiency and waveform transformation ratios increase with frequency.Furthermore, a simplified experiment was carried out on an L-shaped beam which validates that the vibration fields in finite structures may be computed with transmission and reflection coefficients in infinitive ones.The results from above study are useful to guide the acoustic design for ships.
