Abstract

Previous researches concerning random energy flow analysis (REFA) were mainly based on model simulations. In this paper, tests were carried out respectively on a single plate and an Lshaped plate, based on which the validity of REFA was investigated. Because inner loss factor (ILF) is an important input condition for accurate REFA numerical simulation, the ILF testing method based on REFA was proposed and compared with that from the traditional SEA approach. Through the tests on the single plate, the ILF was obtained based on REFA and traditional SEA, and the results from the two methods were compared. For the tests on Lshaped coupled plates, the input power spectrum of the random force was measured as known input to the REFA numerical model of the test plates, and with the ILF test results, the responses of the plates were predicted considering the coupling between flexural and two inplane waves. A good agreement between predicted and measured response spectra for flexural wave field was observed, which verified that REFA is a reliable approach.
