Abstract

Models and methods for calculating the isolation rate of mounts in a powertrain mounting system (PMS) were discussed. For verification, two cars, car A and car B were taken as tested objects. For car A, a model for identifying the excitation forces of its powertrain was proposed with the assumption of taking the powertrain as a rigid body, based on the measured accelerations at the upper and under mounting points where the mount was connected with the powertrain and car body respectively. Then, a method for estimating the isolation rate of the mount in the PMS was developed by using the identified excitation forces and the input point inertance at the under comnection point. The powertrain installed in car B is the same as that of car A, but the body, mount locations and stiffness of car B are different from that of car A.For car B, the accelerations at the upper connection point were calculated, and compared with the experimental results, which validates the model for powertrain excitation force identification. Also, by comparing the estimated and measured isolation rates of the mount of car B validates the calculation methods for mount isolation rates developed in the paper. The identified excitation forces can be used for evaluating the vibrations of powertrain, and the calculated isolation rate can be used for optimizing powertrain mounting system designs.
