Abstract

Subsurface defects seriously affect rolling bearings’ performance and accuracy. In order to investigate their influences on bearing vibration characteristics, a ball-ring contact test rig was built to simulate contacts between balls and races in bearings using a ball-ring contact model.Manufactured micro holes on ring surface or subsurface were used to simulate defects. Then effects of defects on the system vibration were investigated through measuring vibration displacements and loads of the ball-ring contact system in tests. The test results showed that effects of subsurface defects on vibration behavior of the system increase with increase in loads, but the effects are obviously smaller than those of ring surface defects; influences of defects on vibration behavior of the system decreases with increase in rotating speed, the influences are analyzed and verified through theoretical modeling; race defects are one of important factors affecting the precision retaining ability of bearing systems.
