Tests for effects of terrain roughness on wind load characteristics of a high-rise building under downburst

Abstract

The terrain roughness has a great influence on the wind field in the near surface layer. To investigate the variation law of wind pressure on the surface of high-rise building with different roughness topography in wind field of the downburst. Based on impinging jet test, the surface pressure characteristics of high-rise building are discussed in different surface roughness and radial distance. The results indicate that the height of the maximum mean surface pressure on the windward side of the building rises gradually with the roughness increasable, and the positive wind pressure coefficient also increases on the windward side. The absolute value of negative pressure decreases on the leeward side with the roughness raising. The side pressure coefficient is not obvious affected by roughness. The fluctuating pressure coefficient on the side of building increases with terrain roughness raising. The fluctuating wind pressure coefficients of windward and leeward surfaces are less affected by roughness. With the radial distance and the terrain roughness increasable, the outflow intensity reductional is obviously increasing. The wind pressure coefficient are greatly reducible in the middle and lower parts on the windward side. The pressure coefficient decreases gradually on the leeward and the side, and leeward is the linear decreasing trend.
