Tests for frequency domain seismic responses of masonry pagoda with solid structure

Abstract

In order to study the seismic response in frequency domain and failure mechanism of masonry pagodas with solid structure excited by earthquake, the shake table test was done to the model scaled in 1/8 for Xuanzang Pagoda in Xingjiao Temple. The failure characters of the structure were observed. The responses for acceleration and displacement were test and the variation characteristics of the vibration frequency was analyzed. The response curves in frequency domain for accelerations and displacements excited by El-Centro wave were compared to those by Tianjin wave unidirectional . The basic laws were analyzed to the responses in frequency domain and factors to masonry pagodas excited by earthquake. As results, the cracks were appeared in the structure model along horizontal and oblique form 1st floor to 3rd floor excited by earthquake wave. And the vibration frequency of masonry pagodas was lessened after the seismic damages generated in the structure. The peak value distribution of seismic response in frequency domain and the corresponding frequency were related to the dynamic characters of structure, the spectrum characters of seismic wave. Therefore, the seismic response in frequency domain of masonry pagodas are closely related to damage of the structure.
