A constructing method for ground motion alternative database based on response spectrum

Abstract

It’s important to select suitable ground motion records in time history analysis. Based on the consistency of record response spectrum and design response spectrum, the controlling parameters of mean squared error and mean relative difference is compared, and the sectionalized-dual-band method of selecting ground motion records is proposed. According to the intensity of fortification and the period of site characteristic, the sectionalized-dual-band method is used to construct the ground motion alternative database in the whole period range of response spectrum. When the basic period of the structure is determined, the time history analysis can be carried out directly by using the ground motion records in the alternative database, thus the tedious work of re-selecting ground motion records can be eliminated as the variation of the structural period. It is shown that: the sectionalized-dual-band method has good effect on the selection of ground motion records in each period band; and the sectionalized-dual-band method has the feasibility and superiority to construct the ground motion alternative database.
