Test and lightweight design for a mortar base plate

Abstract

Aiming at design requirements of reducing mass and improving comprehensive performance for a mortar base plate, a finite element (FE) model for a mortar base plate considering base plate-soil coupled action was established to compute and analyze the base plate’s rigidity, strength and stress distribution law. The established FE model was verified with base plate impact tests under the action of the designed impact load. Then, reducing the base plate’s mass was taken as the optimization objective and its main parts’ thickness sizes were optimized. The optimized results showed that the base plate’s mass decreases by 10.53% compared with that before optimization, so the optimization effect is obvious; the optimized base plate can meet strength design requirements, and improve its comprehensive performance; the study results provide a reference for lightweight design of mortar base plate.
