Abstract

In order to decorate cities' night view, it has become a trend to install lighting fixtures on the existing long-span cable-stayed bridge. But, the installation of lighting fixtures will significantly change the aerodynamic shape of stay cables, affecting the structural aerodynamic stability. In order to ensure the safety and durability of bridges, the wind resistance of a stayed cable installed with lighting fixtures was studied bymeans of wind tunnel tests, and the influence of the lighting fixtures on the existing stay cable was evaluated.Taking three different diameter stay cables as the research object, wind tunnel tests for force and vibration measurement were carried out around a segment model with a scale ratio of 1∶1.The experimental results show that the presence of lighting fixtures will significantly change the aerodynamic shape of stay cables, increasing the frequency of vortex shedding at the leeward side, so that stay cables have the possibility of vortex-induced resonance at a lower inflow wind speed. In addition, the influence of lighting fixtures on the rain vibration of stay cables is finite, and it has a certain inhibitory effect on dry galloping.
