Abstract

Accurately estimating additional equivalent damping coefficients is foremost for designing structures with viscous dampers.Based on the linearization theory and damper-structure coupling analysis, an estimation method was proposed by applying the inter-history iteration and energy dissipation equivalency.The proposed method exhibits clear physical meaning, with full consideration of the influence of both damping parameters and structural dynamic responses.Moreover, it also has a fast convergence speed and high accuracy.The reliability of the proposed method was validated by the simulations of several case studies and the comparison with an accurate method.
