Shaking table tests of reinforced rubber joint in cross fault tunnel

Abstract

Tunnel crossing active fault segment is one of the most seriously damaged zones in earthquake. Here, aiming at this phenomenon, based on the design concept of active defense, a flexible joint measure combining steel bar and rubber was proposed. Relying on Longxi tunnel crossing fault, dynamic response characteristics of lining structure with joints under fault dislocation and earthquake combined loading mode were studied with shaking table model tests. The analysis results showed that under the combined action of fault dislocation and earthquake, segmented tunnel has following ability and dependence upon surrounding model soil layer; under the combined action of fault dislocation and earthquake, joint setting does not change acceleration response characteristics of lining structure, but effectively reduces acceleration response of cross fault zone lining due to its own deformation compatibility; the proposed joint can effectively reduce shear failure caused by earthquake and block force transmission between segments to localize lining failure, and lining failure is mainly concentrated in area near fault.
