Shaking table tests for wind power tower structure under random near field earthquake

Abstract

The near field pulse-type ground motion often contains larger acceleration peak value and significant velocity pulse effect, and reveals more obvious uncertainty, it may cause serious damage to long-period structures. Here, firstly, 35 different-type random wave samples were synthesized under the condition of 8 degree frequent occurrence based on the near field velocity pulse model and random ground motion model. Then, a certain 2 MW wind power tower test model was designed and fabricated according to the scale of 1∶20. Finally, shaking table tests were conducted taking the mentioned above random earthquake as test input to study response characteristics of the wind power tower model structure under random earthquake and analyze response discreteness. The results showed that the model structural response has significant discreteness, the variability of displacement response increases along tower height, while the variability of shear force response decreases along tower height; acceleration and displacement at tower top and shear force at tower bottom under action of different pulse-type seismic waves with the same amplitude value are larger than those under seismic waves without pulse, and structural responses increase with increase in number of pulses; structure acceleration response under pulse-type random waves is mainly controlled by its fundamental modal shape.
