Dynamic effect analysis of steel frame structure under impact of falling block

Abstract

The local components failure may change the force transfer path of the steel frame structure. In addition to affecting the mechanical performance of the structure directly above the failure components, the lower structure may also be affected by local block drop impact. The lower structure is able to resist the impact load, which is an important research on progressive collapse resistance of frame structure. The dynamic characteristics of the lower frame beam under impact are very important to study its collapse resistance, among which the maximum displacement and impact force are the key dynamic characteristics. First of all, the two extreme cases of complete plastic impact and complete rigid impact are considered. According to the momentum conservation and energy conservation, and combined with the deformation energy function of beam, the upper and lower limit values of the maximum displacement of the beam after the block impact are determined. Then, the accuracy of the maximum displacement theoretical analysis is verified by an impact test of the drop hammer. The results show that when the velocity of the drop block is low, the collision is close to the completely rigid impact, and when the velocity is high, the collision is close to the completely plastic impact. The impact point of the drop block is close to the middle of the span, and the theoretical model is close to the finite element model. When the impact point is located at the constraint end, the calculated value of complete rigidity is larger than the simulated value.
