Dynamic responses of a hinged-girder floating bridge subjected to the action of moving vehicles

Abstract

The mechanical behavior of the hinged-girder floating bridge is elusive, because the main girder will produce elastic deformation induced by moving loads, as well as movement owing to the action of bridge-foot-boat pontoons. Every hinged girder is studied independently considering the rigid motion and elastic deformation at the same time. The moving equations of the hinged-girder floating bridge are established based on the vibration theory of beams. A multi-axles vehicle model is constructed based on the moving concentrated load model. Bridge-foot-boat pontoons are studied as rigid floating bodies with potential theory in time domain. The total matrix equation is set up with the assuming modal method, which can be solved numerically. Examples indicate that results of the present calculation model can effectively reflect the motion law of the present type of floating bridge, which provides technical means for the design and analysis of floating bridges.
