Tests for effects of wind barrier on wind field distribution above track on a simply supported box girder bridge

Abstract

To investigate the influence mechanism of wind barrier on wind field characteristics distribution above the track of typical simply supported box girder under the cross wind action, the wind tunnel test of a section model with a 1:30 geometric scale was carried out on a 32m (typical span of high-speed railway ) prestressed concrete simply supported box girder, The wind field information above the track center of railway bridge deck was measured by three-dimensional fluctuating anemometer, and the test factors such as incoming wind environment, track position and porosities were considered. The result shows that: based on the theory of least squares method, the linear fitting analysis of the test data with zero intercept can better reflect the wind speed relationship between the measuring point and the far field. Compared with the bare beam bridge, the uniform incoming wind speed has a greater influence on the turbulence intensity of the bridge deck wind field with the wind barrier, and the inconsistency index of wind speed ratio is related to the variability of turbulence intensity. The wind speed at the special position of the bridge track center in the uniform wind field increased by 32.8%, however the turbulent wind field will weaken the amplification effect of the equivalent wind field on the bare bridge deck. The wind barrier successfully decreases the mean velocity above the girder, under the shielding effect of a wind barrier with a porosity of 30%, the equivalent wind speeds on the windward and leeward sides are 21.6% and 19.4% of those in the bare beam state, respectively.
