Dynamic characteristics of novel energy-dissipation outrigger structure considering floor stiffness

Abstract

The novel damped outrigger structure can obtain large energy dissipation by the relative deformation between the joint of the perimeter columns and the outrigger, which has been applied to a great many of super high-rise buildings. Based on the consideration of floor stiffness, a simplified calculation model of the novel damped outrigger structure was proposed and compared with the results of ETABS，and the influence of floor stiffness, number of floors and span ratio to the damping ratio, frequency and optimal damping coefficient were analyzed. The results show that the model proposed is well agreed with the results of ETABS, which the maximum error of damping ratio is 13%; the additional damping ratio decreases and the frequency increases after considering the floor stiffness; with the decrease of the floor stiffness, the additional damping ratio increases, the outrigger position of optimal damping ratio moves up and the optimal damping coefficient increases; the equivalent formula proposed can reflect the contribution of floor stiffness and simplify the dynamic characteristic analysis, which provides a theoretical basis for the further engineering application of novel damped outrigger structure.
