Abstract

The structural characteristic response information comes from the engineering field testing, are the foundation of the structural model updating. The engineering structure testing is difficulty to carry out, high cost and limited measuring information. Therefore, it is high necessary to make best use of this valuable and limited characteristic response information, and achieve a successful model updating with the least cost. In this paper, the structural model updating is treated and analyzed as solving a mathematical problem. The situations of different amount and type of characteristic response information for model updating are performed by numerical simulation based on a space truss. Based on the analysis results, some phenomenon and internal relations are found and explained. Also, an experimental space truss is designed and built to verify the reliability of the conclusion based on measured data. Some suggestions on how to make full use of the limited structural characteristic information for efficiently and reliably finite element model updating are provided.
