Impact characteristics analysis of high-speed water jet against hull surface based on ALE algorithm

Abstract

In order to explore the damage effect of water jet cleaning on the hull surface, based on ALE algorithm, the impact pressure and stress characteristics of water jet impacting hull surface with different incidence angle θ and different flow velocity v were studied. The results show that with the increase of incidence angle θ, the impact pressure on the target will appear in the stages of water hammer pressure and stagnation pressure. The kinetic energy of high pressure water jet increases at the appropriate incident angle θ, but decreased when the incident Angle is too large (θ=20°). The stress distribution on the surface and interior of the target strengthened by shear effect at a certain incident angle θ is more complex than that under vertical impact, the parameter combination with the least influence on the hull surface material and the fitting formula between the maximum principal stress and the incident angle and velocity of the jet parameters are obtained. The research results have good theoretical significance and practical value for the application of water jet cleaning on hull surface.
