Test study on failure precursors of orthogonal cross fractured sandstone under uniaxial compression

Abstract

To explore the damage precursor information of orthogonal cross-fractured sandstone under uniaxial compression, uniaxial compression acoustic emission tests of orthogonal cross-fractured sandstone were carried out. The research was conducted from three perspectives: the critical slowing down feature of acoustic emission ringing counting rate, the evolution of the centroid of main frequency and average frequency, and the characteristics of Wavelet Packet Energy Spectrum. The experimental results show that when the samples were loaded to the peak stress, they exhibited obvious critical characteristics: the count rate of acoustic emission ringing presented a "double-peak feature", and the cumulative ringing count rate soared; the autocorrelation coefficient of the ringing count rate rose to a higher value and fluctuated greatly, and the variance changed in the order of "increase-decrease-increase"; the number of low-frequency acoustic emission signals increased significantly, and the centroid of average frequency exhibited a "increase first and then decrease" change; The acoustic emission waveform signal was decomposed into 4 layers of wavelet packets, and the energy ratio of 3~16# frequency band changed in the order of "obviously decreasing - fluctuating increasing"; The order of precursor response coefficients (PRC) obtained by three precursor identification methods is as follows: critical slowing down feature > frequency domain feature > wavelet energy spectrum feature. The order of precursor response stress (PRSR) is opposite to that of the former. As the angle between the main fracture and the axial stress increases, the time of occurrence of the precursor points identified by the three methods of identifying pre-rupture precursors is delayed.
