Influence of mating clearance on the dynamics of piston-slipper assemblies and the film lubrication characteristics

Abstract

The oil film of ball joint pair has an important influence on the performance and stability of axial piston pump, its lubrication behavior is affected by the multi-degree-of-freedom dynamics of slipper and piston. In this study, considering the influence of the clearance on the vibration response and oil film lubrication characteristics, a dynamic model coupling the multi-degree-of-freedom dynamics of slipper and piston with the lubrication behavior of oil film of ball joint pair was established. Firstly, the dynamic equations of slipper and piston were derived by Lagrange method, and the vibration responses of slipper and piston were solved by NewMark-β method. Then, based on the attitude changes of slipper and piston combined with the Reynolds equation, the oil film thickness field-pressure field coupling model of ball joint pair was established. Finally, the variation law of vibration response of the slipper and piston and oil film lubrication characteristics in different mating clearances were analyzed. The results show that the clearance has a significant effect on the vibration response of the slipper and piston and the oil film lubrication characteristics of the ball joint pair，and the appropriate reduction of clearance can reduce the leakage of the pump, thereby the efficiency of pump improved.
