Aerodynamic noise characteristics and noise reduction design of fuel control valves for gas turbines

Abstract

Fuel control valve is a key flow valve used to control fuel flow in gas turbines. In the whole flow process, turbulence degree increases and aerodynamic noise is induced due to the valve spool throttling design. In order to reveal the formation mechanism of aerodynamic noise of the fuel control valve and propose the corresponding noise reduction design method, this study adopted the hybrid fluid-acoustic calculation method, and took methane (CH4) at 200℃ as the working medium to solve the steady-state flow field of the fuel control valve at five open degrees of 10%-100%. Taking steady flow field as the initial solution, the transient flow field parameters required for aerodynamic noise calculation of fuel control valve are solved. The aerodynamic noise propagation model is established and the aerodynamic noise characteristics of fuel control valve are solved. The noise reduction design of fuel control valve is carried out based on the theory of porous noise reduction. The results show that the omnidirectional aerodynamic noise characteristics of the fuel control valve show continuous broadband characteristics dominated by middle and high frequency, and the multi-hole muffling and throttling design can effectively reduce the noise. This study provides an important basis for suppressing pneumatic noise of control valve.
